Search engines, including Google, create updates to the search algorithm more or less regularly. With these changes, Google changes the search criteria. This then ultimately results in the content and technical requirements that a website should fulfil in order to obtain a good positioning in the search engines.
Google updates are dreaded. This is because each update can possibly mean a change of a website in the search engine results. It can happen that a website that previously ranked first for a certain keyword loses its ranking.
The updates have code names
Google updates almost always have distinctive names. One of the best-known updates is probably the Panda Update. This was named after the Google engineer Navneet Pana.
